Video Task

This is a scene from Sweet November. Although it is an old movie, I watched it about a week ago and I really liked it. I chose this movie because it contains a different approach to the relationship between men women and this scene is my favourite. In this video, Nelson comes to Sara's home with eleven Christmas gifts although it is not Christmas and the twelfth is a surprise for Sara.

Questions

1) What did Nelson aim by giving Sara a hundred train tokens?

2) Which gift did Sara like most among the eleven gifts?

3) What was Nelson's twelfth gift?

Open-Ended Questions

1) Which gift would you like most if you were Sara?

2) Do you think it is Christmas the reason why Nelson brought twelve gifts to Sara?

3)Why do you think November is so special for them?

Self Evaluation

I liked preparing questions from a movie I liked and it was really enjoyable. However, it was a little hard to understand what the performers says because they were talking a little sliently, I guess. Despite this little hardship, I liked watching this scene again and it reminded me of those nice times I had while I was watching it.

Rewriting Task

My candidate for the person of the year is Aamir Khan. Let me mention him. He is an Indian film actor, director, and producer who is regarded as one of the great and influential actors of Indian Cinema. He started his career at the age of 8 in his uncle Nasir Hussain's film Yaadon Ki Baaraat(1973). After, he began his professional career eleven years later with Holi(1985) and had his first commercial success with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak(1988). He received his first National Film Award as a Special Jury Award for his roles in the films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Raakh(1989)After eight previous nominations during the 1980s and 1990s, Khan received his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in Raja Hindustani(1996)  and later won his second Best Actor Award for his performance in the Academy Award nominated Lagaan(2001),which also marked the debut of his own production company. Later he won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor for his role in Rang De Basanti(2006). In 2007, he made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par, for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Director. This was
followed by Ghajini(2008), which became the highest grossing film of that year, and the comedy 3 Idiots(2009), which was the highest grossing Bollywood film as of 2012 and his recent Dhoom3(2013). On 30 November 2011, Khan was appointed as national brand ambassador of UNICEF to promote child nutrition. He is part of the government organised IEC campaign to raise awareness about malnutrition. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010 for his contributions towards the arts. In April 2013, he was among TIME magazine's list of the100 Most Influential People in the world. So, I think he is the most possible candidate. Now, I want to hear your candidates and reasons.

Rewriting Task

I chose "Patlak Sokaklar/Bölüm 1-Esrarengiz Olay". It is the first part of the video series from Youtube by a comedy group named Batesmotelpro. It takes in hand the Hollywood detective movies or TV series in a funny way. Actually it doesn’t contain only Hollywood movies or TV series but also Turkish ones. Since these video series attracted people so much, they made a movie with the same name and it is really good. Patlak Sokaklar video series aren't their single work, they have lots of other funny videos. The group has also a music group called Tandır Boys and their aim is just fun again. They joke about everything as much as possible but they are not destroying critics.Their style is creative and indirect. Actors’ voices, again, associate with Hollywood movies in this video but their some behaviors are completely Turkish ones. In this video, there is a criminal who made two people pneumonia and our cool group is examining the crime scene, looking for the criminal man. They reflect things are not like in the movies in normal life and they succeed it. I agree with them completely and it’s another reason why they make me laugh so much. They are also good at punning upon a word. You should watch them too, I’m sure you are going to have fun :)

Reflection Task 2a

History of Society

I chosed this topic because I want to comment on historical change of society. I didn't live in ancient times, of course I will just mention my opinions according to things I learn or read. I'm interested in those, especially the Republican Era was really good. People were developing themselves multi dimensional. They were very eager to learn new things. Actually the subject which I concern most is the way women used to wear. No matter people say the clothing is more modern today, I don't believe that. I think it was more modern in those times and gradually it became infrequent. Women used to look more respectable. I would love to wear that hats or dresses but in today's society they are a little strange.

I like not only the Republican Era style but also the regality times'. By the way I'm not talking about black chadors or veils, I don't like them at all. They make me think that women have to hide themselves behind those things and I think they attenuate women. They are the things which prevent women's voices in society, I mean in the figurative sense. Whatever, let's come back to the subject, I like those fluffy dresses and the way women used to walk in them, slowly. However, as far as I know, women weren't respected in those times. So, I only like the clothing of them but as many things, this will change too, i guess. I'm really not conservative, I just want those clothes to be adapted for today's circumstances.

Reflection Task 1b

Hi everyone! Today I want to mention my best mate, Tolga YILMAZ. I guess, I can’t think of anyone but Tolga when I try to find a person who is not famous but I think should be. He is the embodiment of determination and success. So, I asked him for an interview in order to share with you and he gladly accepted. He was born on March 21st, 1995, in Havza. During his childhood he was always a good son to his parents, and mean to his cousins. He went to Mehmet Öngel Primary School and he was really successful there. His teachers liked him very much but his friends’ feelings were quite the opposite. I don't know whether that was because he was taller than all his friends or because he was more successful than all of them put together. His parents and relatives always wanted him to be a doctor but his interest was mainly in English and other foreign languages so he ignored their wishes. As to his high school years, we were in the same school: Amasya Anatolian Teacher Training High School. He was very successful in high school too, scoring an average of 98 points in all of his English exams. He was ambitious, he still is. He succeeded in all his goals in high school, too. There was nothing he wanted but wasn't able to do. He always urged me to study but I'm a lazy person so I never studied as much as he wanted. His latest goal was to enter Boğaziçi University and again he succeeded. Except his accomplishments, he was always a good friend. He built morale to me when I was feeling down. He was helpful and sincere. He has a good sense of humour and his ability to comment is superb. He has a wide general knowledge.  Being an high achiever, he never wanted a modest life; he always wanted the best, which is why I believe he deserves to be famous. He studies Translating and Interpreting Studies in Boğaziçi University at the moment and wants to be the best at his job in the future. Surely that’s something that any one of us desire, but I'm sure he will succeed in this, too.
